Vaping is definitely categorized among human activities that are addicting. The question isn’t if vaping is addictive, but how addictive it is.
The nature of addiction
There are two forms of addiction. The first is physical, which is most commonly known. Physically addiction is when your body becomes reliant on a consumed substance. Physical addiction can take various forms, but usually it is a result of the chemical makeup in your body being changed or altered as a result of the consumed substance.
An example of this is the chemical nicotine. Your brain cells have receptors, and nicotine stimulates some of these receptors. Over a period of time of consistent nicotine use, these receptors become accustomed to the amount of nicotine that they are receiving. Now, when you consume nicotine via smoking (or vaping), your body rewards you with a pleasurable experience. When these receptors no longer receive the nicotine intake that they are accustomed too, you feel physical discomfort.
The second form of addiction is categorized as mental addiction. Mental addiction occurs when you repeat an action that then becomes habit forming. You can be mentally addicted to both positive and negative things, though what gets the most attention is the negative.
Smoking and addiction
What makes smoking such a powerfully addictive item is that it is both physically addicting in the form of nicotine, and mentally addictive, such as having the habit of going outside in the morning to light up a smoke.
Vape juice, which unlike cigarette smoking has numerous flavors to choose from, can be both physically and mentally addicting. It can be physically addicting if the concoction has nicotine, and mentally addictive by having the habit of blowing smoke in and out throughout the day.
Vaping as a substitute for smoking
So, similar to cigarettes, vaping is very addictive. The difference is, vaping is being used as a tool to stop smoking cigarettes, which is more addicting and much more harmful on your health. This is because vaping simulates both the physical side of addiction via nicotine, and also the mental side of addiction of having the habit of having something in your hand and inhaling it.
Unlike cigarettes, vaping allows you to slowly taper off the amount of nicotine your consume. This is done by first purchasing a vape product that has a lot of nicotine, than moving down to an e-liquid with less nicotine, and so on, until finally your vaping an e-liquid with zero nicotine. Now that the physical addiction is out of the way, now all that’s left is the mental addiction.
The mental addiction is more tricky to eliminate. You will need intense will power to simply put the vaping device away and find something else to busy your hands.
In conclusion, vaping is addictive. This is because smoking is addictive, and vaping is a substitute to the more harmful effects of cigarette smoke. Once you are vaping and not smoking any longer, vaping is much easier to quit because you can gradually reduce the nicotine content by buying reduced nicotine liquids. .
